PRUI Banten became the first province to run Get Into Rugby (GIR) Training for Trainers and Festival in 2020. The series of activities were held at Maulana Yusuf Stadium, Serang City, Banten on Sunday, February 16, 2020. PRUI Banten held this annual Festival to promote Rugby in the province and this year the event was attended by 90 participants from elementary to university levels throughout Banten Province.
GIR Training for Trainers was held from 9 am to 3 pm, the training was intended for sports teachers and coaches from every city and district in Banten. All participants received GIR Coach certification and were given GIR target during 2020.
The event was also attended by 8 Ryutsu Keizai University (RKU) students from Japan who were present at their annual visit to help promoting Rugby in Indonesia. Also present were some local media and media from Japan.
Muhammad Reza Mahrdhika who is the GIR Coordinator of Banten Province expressed his optimism about the development of Rugby in Banten. “PRUI Banten has recognized by the Banten National Sports Committee (KONIDA) and our main program now is to promote this sport to all schools in Banten. Banten has got so many national accomplishments and this year we will compete in PON XX Papua, we need the support from all parties in Banten, “said Reza.
Meanwhile Rizaldy, one of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University Students who also participated in this festival felt that this sport was very enjoyable. “I just realized how much fun this sport is, even though it is only a short event introducing rugby, but I love it straight away and can not wait to play in a rugby match.”
Banten Province won a Silver medal at PON XIX in 2016, and this year they will participate in the PON XX in Papua. Let’s wish for the best for PRUI Banten!
