After a successful visit in 2013, four IRB Trainers from the Penguins International Coaching Academy will tour Indonesia over the next week carrying out Coach, Referee and Player Training in Jakarta, Jonggol, Jagorawi and Bali. Indonesian Rugby is once again proud to play hosts to the Penguins Academy which was set up in 2004 and has since traveled all over the world, coaching 1000’s of children and adults how to play and enjoy Rugby.

This evening Rob Drinkwater from Australia and Eck Edmonstone from Scotland will arrive in Jakarta. They have a full weekend of training ahead of them starting with attending the Jakarta Komodos Junior Rugby session at Jagorawi tomorrow, where they will help to coach young boys and girls aged 5-18 plus run an IRB Level 1 Coaching Course for mums and dads. Then on Sunday they will take time to train up new coaches and referees from the Jakarta Batengs and UNJ Rugby Clubs via an IRB Level 1 Coaching and IRB Level 1 Refereeing course.

Indonesian Rugby is very thankful to the Jakarta Komodos Rugby Club for hosting tomorrow’s session and on Sunday the Union will give thanks to Britmindo and ACG International School for providing indoor and outdoor training facilities.

On Sunday night Lee Adamson and Sheldon Coffin from England will arrive to bolster numbers for a full week of training, starting with a visit of all four Trainers to the Mama Sayang Orphanage at Jonggol on Monday morning and then an evening session with the Jakarta Bantengs Rugby Club. A group of young ladies from Mama Sayang’s have been actively involved in the Indonesian Rugby programme since early 2013. The Jakarta Banteng’s were set up following early work by the Union to establish Rugby for Indonesian nationals in 2004.

On Tuesday the coaches will split up and conduct training sessions at Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) in East Jakarta and Global Jaya International School located at Bintaro.The UNJ lads have been developing well under Coach Yudi, who as done a fantastic job in setting up a Rugby programme at UNJ. In the evening the Trainers will take a session at the Jakarta International School in Pondok Indah.

Plans for Wednesday at this stage include assisting Indonesian Rugby’s National Development Manager, Karina Soerjanatamihardja, in reviewing and restructuring the Union’s Strategy Plan for Rugby Development from 2015-18. Late in the afternoon the Trainers will head off for their flight to Bali where they will conduct further clinics for Bali Rugby through until Saturday.
