The Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS) Varsity Rugby Team participated in the Interscholastic Association of Southeast Asian Schools or IASAS Rugby Tournament held at International School Bangkok (ISB), Thailand, over the January 29-31 weekend. The JIS Varsity Team (pictured above) or ‘The Dragons’ as they are known were coached by Tony Dickinson.
IASAS was founded in 1982 and is made up of six schools including JIS, ISB, The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL), Singapore American School (SAS), International School of Manila (ISM) and Taipei American School (TAS).
The teams played in a round robin 10-a-side competition followed by a series of Finals matches. JIS completed its round robin matches with 4 wins and a draw to finish on top of the table with 13 competition points. The Dragons results were as follows:
JIS 51 d ISB 0
JIS 14 v ISKL 14
JIS 34 d ISM 0
JIS 19 d SAS 15
JIS 36 d TAS 0
In the Final for 5th/ 6th, TAS 19 defeated ISB 7 and in the 3rd/ 4th Final, SAS 17 defeated ISM 10.
The JIS Dragons played ISKL in the Final and unfortunately were unable to continue their unbeaten run in the Final, going down 22-31 to ISKL.
Despite the result Indonesian Rugby is very proud as are all the parents and coaches of the JIS Dragons and their efforts to bring home the Silver Medal from the IASAS Rugby Cup.
