Indonesian Rugby to Boost the Number of Coaches

Indonesian Rugby is standing by its commitment to deliver quality IRB Level Training to Coaches and Referees over the coming months, with a visit to the Jakarta-Bandung-Bogor region to be made by IRB Educator, Ismail ‘Izzy’ Kadir next week. Three IRB Educators from the Penguin International Coaching Academy (Penguins) are also due to visit Jakarta and Bali in late October, 2014.

While Izzy is in Indonesia he will deliver IRB Level 1 Coaching Course and “Get Into Rugby” (GIR) Training to a number of participants. This training will help Indonesian Rugby boost the number of current coaches, which in turn will help the Union increase the number of active male and female players. Izzy also plans to go to a number of Indonesian schools and universities during his visit.

The trainers from the Penguins aim to deliver an IRB Level 2 Coaching Course to active and experienced Rugby Coaches during their visit. This is a two-day course and those participating will then be required to log all their coaching activities and report back to the Penguins’ Trainers in order to receive certification. Participants in this course will include active male and female coaches who have already completed the IRB Level 1 Coaches Course plus are currently active in a coaching role. There is also a GIR Festival for school age children planned during the Penguins’ visit to Jakarta.

The Penguins will also head across to Bali to deliver an IRB Level 1 Coaches course to a number of persons from the Bali Rugby Club, and visit some schools as well.

A number of coaches have also this year been given an introduction to the GIR programme thanks to sessions conducted by Simon Jones, an IRB Educator from England. Steve Barber from Indonesian Rugby, also recently delivered a GIR Introduction Session (pictured above) to some coaches from the Jakarta Komodos Junior Rugby Club.
