Persatuan Rugby Union Indonesia (PRUI), in collaboration with the TOPI Foundation (Taman Olahraga Pancawati) will host the largest Rugby 7s tournament (Sevens) in Java. The tournament will be played by 8 teams from the men’s senior category, 4 teams from the university category, and 4 teams from the female category; coming from 4 different provinces in Indonesia. The tournament is called “2016 Rugby Pass Nusantara 7s” and held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 in Nusantara Polo Club Field, Jagorawi.
This tournament will serve as an evaluation for each club in order to prepare for the National Sports Week (PON) XIX – where rugby will be played for the first time this year – in West Java.
The men’s senior teams are: Jakarta Banteng (2 teams), Jakarta Komodos, Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), Bandung Rams Rusa, Bogor Kujang, Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS), and Jakarta Japan Rugby Gila (JJRG).
The female teams are: Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), Bandung Rams, and Jakarta Komodos (2 teams).
And the university teams are: Universitas Negeri Jakarta, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia Bandung, Universitas Pembangunan Jaya Bintaro, and Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta who came all the way from DI Yogyakarta specially for this tournament.
In addition to the Indonesian’s referees, we also invited three referees from Malaysia. We highly appreciate the Malaysian Rugby Union who supports this tournament by sending their referees.
Along in this tournament, we will also be holding rugby training for the school-age children, which will be participated by 9 schools, with the number of participants of more than 200 children. The training is supported by BritCham (British Chambers) Indonesia. The participants are:
