Rugby Makes it to Pare-Pare, Sulawesi

Report by Stephen Barber, PRUI Life Member

This week some youths in Pare-Pare, Central Sulawesi, had their first chance to throw around a Rugby ball thanks to the generosity of a group of Indonesian Rugby converts. The youths had a great time and welcome the offer from Indonesian Rugby to have Rugby Development Officer travel up to the region from Jakarta to introduce children and youths in the region to Rugby via World Rugby’s “Get Into Rugby” or GIR programme.

Former National Team player, Dwikie Pinontoan has offered to travel up to Pare-Pare when he is next in Indonesia to teach GIR to the children and youths. While he is in Sulawesi he will also travel to Sorowako, home of the ‘Matano Miners’ to do some further GIR training.

Indonesian Rugby thanks Fikri Al-Azhar, Tito Vau, Imas Yaya and Ardiansyah for organising the rugby balls that have been sent to Pare-Pare.
